Better Food, Better Attitude, Better Grades

Where a child goes to school is important, but what a child eats can be just as important or more so. Here at The Apple Tree School, we strive for the most effective and quality early childhood education to get your young one meeting their potential as quickly as possible. We not only mix elements of a classical education—like analytical and reasoning abilities—with Christian values, but we make sure that our students eat high-quality nutritious foods while in our care. Much of our provided food is organic and grown right here at the school, with the help of our students. Regardless of if your child is attending our Christian school in Houston, or another school elsewhere, we cannot stress the benefits of high quality food for your children as they venture into academics.

What is Healthy Eating?

Healthy eating doesn’t just mean eating organic. There are entire sections of organic cookies at some super markets. It is far more important to make sure that your child is eating a balanced variety of whole and nutritious foods. This is a topic of ongoing discussion among the science community, but it generally means consumption of healthy proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, while eating foods that are dense in micronutrients such as spinach or broccoli. Foods such as sugar and dairy can be included in limited amounts.

Better Growth

Maintaining a proper diet to support the ongoing physical development of your child is key to ensure they grow strong dense bones and proper development. Eating healthy foods can help you to avoid expensive and detrimental health problems down the line. When your child eats a healthy diet, they may develop less cavities and reduce their risk of many chronic health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer.

Better Brain Development

Regardless of whether your child is destined to grow up into a welder or physicist, proper brain development is key to thriving and problem solving in any profession and avoiding mental and motor skill delays. For instance, a child who is lacking fatty acid DHA might experience delays in learning and development. Children with a proper diet are more able to intake and adapt to new information.

Better Attitude

Another key benefit of a proper diet for your child’s scholarly aspirations, is good food’s effect on behavioral and cognitive issues. For instance, if your child is suffering from a diagnosed behavioral issues such as ADHD, then a healthy diet with increased zinc and iron can have huge effects on curtailing the symptoms. This same concept can be applied to a myriad of other cognitive issues with similar results. Though, even without cognitive issues, simply eating better can boost energy and feelings of well being. While the idea of your child with more energy may sound terrifying, it’s not the same as hyperactivity. Boosted energy from an improved diet has been shown to increase a child’s ability to focus well and absorb information.

Better Grades

The benefits of a good diet build can be more impactful when applied in a classroom setting. Better physical development means that children will better keep pace with their peers and gain better bonds. This, in addition to the better performance in cognitive tasks, and steady brain growth means that they will be more likely to have healthy self esteem and continue to thrive socially. With greater focus, your child is more likely to excel in self directed in studies, interests, and sports.
